Welcome to the Detroit Zen Center
website.
Zen has its origins in Buddhism, but is itself not a religion.
Zen is the study of the self and its awakening, with seated
meditation, or contemplation, as its root practice.
The Detroit Zen Center is a residency for both monks and lay
students,
located in a diverse urban community (Hamtramck) in the center of
Detroit. We are open to the public in various ways, and
encourage anyone interested in Zen to attend a Sunday
introductory session. Throughout the week, volunteers can
participate in manual work projects together with students and monks.
The Detroit Zen Center is a non-profit organization founded in 1990
by Hwalson Sunim, Abbot, in the Lin-chi (Jap. Rinzai) lineage of Sudeok-sa Temple, South Korea. |
